Today we will improve the first Max Payne and make it a good and quite graphic game.
We will improve the quality of textures through a neural network ESRGAN
A little opinion from the author of the article.
I will say that I love old games, but, unfortunately, either they do not work well, or they look extremely modest by today’s standards (although the gameplay and stories still deserve praise), so they require a “second life”.
Max Payne is a great game that deserves a chance to be resurrected.
Let’s get started
First, download 4 archives.
This patch increases the maximum amount of RAM spent by the game.
This is needed for a mod that improves the quality of textures several times, and also makes the lighting in the game more voluminous.
To install, go to the website and download the dedicated link.
This patch is needed for the sound to work correctly in the game, since Max Payne was originally made for Windows XP and because of this, the sound sometimes does not work on later versions.
To install, click on the highlighted button on the site.
Patch for normal operation with modern monitors.
Download the archive using the highlighted button.
The juiciest part of all the modifications, since this particular mod improves the quality of textures and resolution.
Go to the website and download.
Installation
Now we can start tinkering with the game.
First, go to the folder where we have the game.
New textures and lighting
Opening the archive MPRemastered1.3 and transfer all the contents to the game folder
If you need to replace files, don’t be alarmed, just replace them calmly.
Widescreen monitor support
Let’s go to the archive maxpaynewidescreenfix and also transfer all the files in it to the game folder. (with replacement)
Working with sound
For the sound to work correctly, https://sportsbettingmedia.co.uk/latest-news/sports-betting-app-ios-android we will need to do a little more steps.
To begin with, we also transfer all the files in the archive MaxPayneSoundPatchv1.12 to the game folder.
Next, among the files that we put in the folder, we look for a batch file MaxBatch and launch it.
After launch, the console should open, where you can have two colors in the background
1. Green – means that all files were successfully verified
In this case we simply click C, after ENTER and wait for the game to be converted until the word Finished, after which we can close the console.
2. Red – means that there is an error among some file.
If you have an error like me, then don’t worry and do everything the same as with the green color.
Now we can close the console.
Latest patch
To install the latest patch we need to extract the file that is in the archive 4gb_patch anywhere.
Now open the exe file and go to the game folder.
In the folder we find MaxPayne.exe, click on it and press the open button.
A window should then appear.
A little more and you can play
There are a few steps left to make it work.
First, create a notepad and write the command in it: start /affinity 1 MaxPayne.exe (We need this command for the game to work correctly.)
Save the notepad as a batch file in the game folder. (It is advisable that the name of your file be in English)
Now create a shortcut to the batch file on the desktop. (We will now launch the game with it)
We launch our file that we created and should see this menu:
In it we move into options and set everything up like mine.
We can start the game.
In the game we have to go to options – video, there we will have to sharpen the textures to the maximum.
Congratulations! If everything worked out for you, you can now enjoy Max’s smile in high definition.
And now answers to questions about the originality of the article
Someone may claim that I simply plagiarized this article from another person, but this is not so, since this person is me. (If you need evidence, I am ready to provide it)
Little by little, I’m thinking about moving from DTF to StopGame, so I’m moving my most useful articles here. (Adding them up)

My gratitude for your comment.
Thank you for remaining not indifferent to other people’s articles
No, that’s a like. I’m thinking about going through it again, but the poor levels with red threads are putting me off. Thanks for the article.
Eh, if only there was a bigger gallery to look at the changes) Although one of those fossil bores who, at the sight of all these patches, start buzzing: “uuuuuuu, this interface was not designed for 16:9!!11 Experience the original experience. 1!11!1″
But in the end, let everyone play the way they like best, fortunately, Max Payne is a game that has aged well (in the sense that, in my opinion, it is still a very cool joke)
Perhaps I’ll think about such an implementation, but it’s unlikely to be implemented in the near future, since I don’t quite understand the console, commands, etc.d.
Familiar with fan patches of this type. For beginners it is written accurately and clearly)
It seems that you need to make one installer that will roll out patches with packages one after another. Then the article will not be needed. Just set up an executable that will call scripts, straight from this article. There’s a matter of a couple of lines. Hmmm. It might even stir things up?
Glad it helped :3
Why does my console where I install sound say “No main options,No game,No mods,Can’t do much” and there is no letter [C]
Max Payne has such a minimalistic interface that the aspect ratio doesn’t matter at all, just move the icons to the lower corners, nothing should even be stretched. Here are story comics – yes, but it’s logical to just leave them 4:3.
So I’m not talking about stretching. And about the fact that in 4:3 this interface layout is convenient, you can always see everything with at least angular vision. And at 16:9 you have to move the focus back and forth. (maybe this is purely my problem, but I noticed it in many games with HD patches)
Vanya, straighten your back and move away from the monitor, you’ll ruin your eyesight! And in general, I would go outside to kick a ball, otherwise you’re sitting on your computer. 😀
It’s probably all individual here. I myself regularly replay old games, usually without HD patches, but with aspect ratio and FOV adjustments – I didn’t notice this in 16:9 on a 27» monitor. In general, if you need an original experience, you need to go through the window to reduce everything to the size of a 15″ monitor. 😀
